Type of Non-Woven Fabric:

Nonwoven fabric is a fabric-like material made from staple fiber (short) and long fibers (continuous long), bonded together by chemical, mechanical, heat or solvent treatment. The fibers used in the production of non-woven fabrics are mainly polypropylene (PP) and polyester (PET). In addition, there are nylon (PA), viscose fiber, acrylic, ethylene (HDPE), and chloroprene (PVC).


The Main Material of Face Mask: 

Ordinary masks are composed of three layers of outer layer spunbond nonwoven fabric, middle layer meltblown nonwoven fabric and inner layer skin-friendly nonwoven fabric.

1. Melt-blown Non-Woven Fabric (also called PP): Melt-blown cloth is the core material of the face mask. Melt-blown cloth mainly uses polypropylene (PP) as the main raw material, and the fiber diameter can reach 1 to 5 microns. There are many voids, fluffy structure and good resistance to folds. The ultrafine fibers with unique capillary structure increase the number and surface area of fibers per unit area, so that the melt-blown cloth has good filtration, shielding, heat insulation and oil absorption. It can be used in the fields of air, liquid filtration materials, insulation materials, absorption materials, mask materials, thermal insulation materials, oil-absorbing materials and wipers.

2. Spunlaid Non-Wovens: Spunlaid Non-Wovens also called spunbond nonwovens which are made in one continuous process. Fibers are spun and then directly dispersed into a web by deflectors or can be directed with air streams. This technique leads to faster belt speeds, and cheaper costs. Spunbond has been combined with melt-blown nonwovens, conforming them into a layered product called SMS (spun-melt-spun). Melt-blown nonwovens have extremely fine fiber diameters, but are not strong fabrics. SMS fabrics, made completely from PP are water-repellent and fine enough to serve as disposable fabrics. Melt-blown is often used as filter media, being able to capture very fine particles. Spunlaid is bonded by either resin or thermally. Regarding the bonding of Spunlaid, Rieter has launched a new generation of nonwovens called Spunjet. In fact, Spunjet is the bonding of the Spunlaid filaments thanks to the hydroentanglement.

3. Hydrophilic Non-Woven Fabric or Skin-friendly Non-Woven Fabric: mainly used in the production of medical and hygienic materials to obtain a better feel and not to scratch the skin. For example, sanitary napkins and sanitary pads utilize the hydrophilic function of hydrophilic non-woven fabrics.
